Updated 1/08 [M 53] I am 53 and am being treated for prostate problems that usually occur around this time, BPH. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. The medication my doctor has prescribed for me is Avodart which has some unwanted side effects. The most disturbing one is the reduced sexual drive and the ability to achieve and maintain an erection. I knew that something wasn't working right when we had sex. I definitely didn’t want to lose this very small pill. I thought the pill would slide out, but it didn't. I place the tip of the scissors blade in the blister to pry the pill out and zippity zing the leverage on the blister from the tip of the scissors propelled the pill like a miniature tiddily wink out of the package. I told her that over the past ten or fifteen years, I had been experiencing a definite rolloff in the time it took to obtain an erection and the ease with which I could lose it.
She went over my other health concerns and concluded that they would not put me at risk if I used Viagra, so she said she could write me a prescription if I wanted one. I remembered from Pfizer's website that they had six tablet sample packs that were free for the asking, so I suggested that I try one of those first, which was fine with her. She stepped out of the examining room and came back with one, telling me that I must be a lucky man, because this was the only one they had left. Getting six of these for free is no small consideration when you have to pay almost ten dollars a pop for them via prescription.
She mentioned that I should't be too concerned if little or nothing improved the first time I tried it, as, in her experience, many men said they didn't begin to really kick in until the second time they tried it. She also said that they might not work to full advantage if taken soon after eating a large meal, especially a high fat meal.
Interestingly enough, my wife's reaction to my having Viagra tablets was not as uniformly enthusiastic as I would have expected. She said, "What do you need THOSE for?" (She seems to have come around to them, now that she knows what 'THOSE' will do, but moral of the story is, talk to your mate.)
The first time I took one, I couldn't really tell if it did anything or not, so I was glad my physician had prepared me for that. The SECOND time I took one, though, REALLY made a difference! I had an erection that reminded me of life fifteen years ago, and the next morning, it started getting hard again just remembering the night before! I learned that my wife seems to view my use of Viagra as offensive. She got upset last evening at me over this. We set out to have a fun evening. I took ˝ a Viagra before dinner. I can confirm that the erection is stronger and harder than ever (well, maybe it was just as strong when I was 20 - I am now 57!). As noted there is a great deal of control over the situation, but given any sort of stress (something not working correctly) the erection can also go away just as magically!
My insurance coverage will pay for most of the prescription, so I have been asking for the larger pills and cutting them in half to double the number of doses. I find that what I have eatten or had to drink can also affect the effectiveness of the pills.
Overall I have been an avid user of Viagra for over 2 years with nothing but positive results to report!
